Spaghetti is to be eaten using a fork alone. In a private home, spaghetti has been seen eaten using a fork and a spoon. The fork is held in the right hand. It is used to select a few strands of spaghetti. The spoon is held in the left hand. It is used as a base for the fork to assist in the winding of the spaghetti around it. The spoon is then rested on the upper right side of the plate: in the rest position for a knife. A fork has been seen being twirled against a small piece of bread to assist the winding process. In more formal settings, the use of a spoon and/or bread is to be avoided.
In public, Spaghetti is to be eaten using a fork alone.
1. A space is to be made to the bottom of the plate. The fork is to be used to select a few strands.
2. Then in the bare space it is twined silently around and around until all the strands in the group have been wound around it.
3. The filled fork is to be rested, brought to the front of the plate, folded to the side, and then taken to the mouth. This process is to be repeated for the rest of the dish. The fork alone or the fork and the spoon can be used to mix the sauce and cheese onto the spaghetti. The used spoon is then rested in the rest position for it. Then eat.
