University Etiquette Male Performance and Allegiance Surviving the Parent Company

Outclass the Competition

In home training, you were told, "It is your life. You can do, or be, whatever you want." Then someone said, "Now, do your homework; do the dishes; take out the trash; you are a good child; you are going to make a marvelous... (What did I want you to be?) Now, go to bed. Tomorrow you have to get up early."

In business, someone will say, “It is your job; as long as you follow the rules, you can do it anyway you want." You will learn the difference between "Hard work" and "Good work." Good work is how well a job is thought to have been done.

Learn A Game Called Working. Subtitle it, Why Did He or She Hire Me? You were hired because… there was a vacancy. You are being retained because… of your personality. When anyone irritates, more than he or she can impress, there will be a new vacancy. You were hired to assist the person you report to in accomplishing the things that person thinks are important to do. It is that person’s job, and “Good work” is subject to that person’s approval.

All things are subject to approval. When there is not a clear -cut definition of what is to be done, formulate a procedure. Coordinate it with the authority. He or she was hired to formulate policy. You are hired to follow policy. Also, showing initiative is fine as long as it does not take time from things the authority thinks you should do.

Always own fifty-one percent of you. Always have two options. Ask the person who approves work, which of the two options would be the best policy. Let the person whose job it is to formulate policy add to your initiative, or enlighten you as to what is practical, or for right now what is priority. Simply state, “I intended to do such and such, how does that sound to you?” Translation: “I know the reality. If you do not agree with me, it will not be the right thing to do.”

To do "Work" is the stated reason someone hired you. What someone is really looking to see is your personality: how well you perform, show allegiance, play, do lunch, and drink coffee. "Never take yourself too seriously.”

Promotions

What are promotions not based on...? Promotions are not based on good work, and they certainly are not based on hard work. Good work may get you a bonus, a good assignment, and most certainly, a chance to do more good work. It will not necessarily get you a promotion. Promotions are based on allegiance, and image, and on exposure to things, which may or may not have anything to do with work.

Promotions are to a large degree sponsored. Sponsors "Do" things for others with whom they feel comfortable. Once a comfort level is established training, raises, and promotions are routinely provided, contacts are instituted, and investment advice is shared. The drawback to sponsorship is that individuals do not want to loose members of their group.

Your next sponsor and promotion can be yours to get on your very own. The easiest way to be identified or validated by your next sponsor is while you are extending or sharing business hospitality.
