A Four-in-hand knot is suited for formal day clothing and for the very young. Short form: (You can tie this knot)
1. Place the tie around your neck.
2. Wrap the tie around, and around, up from back through to the front, in the hole and down. (And the rabbit goes around…,)
Long form:
1. Start with the large end of the tie on the right side. Pull the larger end down until it extends two to four inches below the smaller end.
2. Wrap it around to the back of the smaller end. Hold it at the wrap around point (high up near your neck.) Again, wrap the tie around the back (loosely.)
3. Flip the larger end up and through to the front. Put the tip into the noose (made by the second wrap.)
4. Pull it through the knot while holding the knot at the bottom.
5. Use the other hand to adjust and to shape the tie knot, tie, and dimple. Check the bottom, the split bottom angles are to meet at the side.
An Ascot is tied in the same manner as is a Four-in-hand knot, except for the last step. The large end is pushed up and through to the front, but it is let to lie in front of the noose.
The clasp on a western tie is to be slid all the way up.
A clasp or a piece of jewelry has been seen at the top of more than one neck. Socially, there is that no collar shirt with a top button, it is to be covered with a button cover.
